A striking new mural celebrating the history and identity of Tuxford has been unveiled on the town’s A1 underpass as part of a community-led regeneration project funded through a government scheme.
The artwork was created in partnership with Tuxford Town Council and designed with contributions from students at Tuxford Academy, local charity Tuxford Forget-Me-Notts, the Museum of the Horse and the Walks of Life Museum.
The colourful display aims to showcase the town’s heritage while transforming what had previously been a dull and unwelcoming underpass into a brighter gateway for residents and visitors.
Joan Moorhouse, Chairman of Tuxford Town Council, said she hopes the mural will be enjoyed for many years to come.
She said: “I hope this mural will be enjoyed by many people for years to come, offering a walk through time for visitors, residents and generations of Tuxfordians.
“Projects like this help preserve our heritage, celebrate our identity and strengthen pride in our community.”
The mural was installed by Artworks, an organisation which supports artists with learning disabilities and autism, working alongside artist Alastair Flindall.
Councillor Steve Scotthorne, Cabinet Member for Identity, Planning and Place at Bassetlaw District Council, praised the finished artwork.
He said: “This mural has made what was once a dull underpass much brighter and more welcoming for both local people and visitors coming into the town.
“I’d like thank everyone who helped shape the ideas and everyone who worked to turn them into reality.”

The first side of the underpass has now been completed, with a second mural planned for the opposite side later in August once the artist becomes available and road safety arrangements are in place.
Funding for the project came through the Town Centre Streetscaping Fund, supported by the UK Government and distributed by Bassetlaw District Council, with the aim of creating safer, more vibrant and welcoming town centres across the district.
